Target Audience

Land Analysts who work with both leases and contracts, and Intermediate Contracts Analysts.

Course Description

As negotiations become even more creative, land admin also becomes increasingly more unique and difficult. The task of choosing the correct DOI in the land system can be inundating. In this class, intermediate land analysts will learn pooling agreements, governing versus related DOIs, penalty interests, earning obligations, preparing a chain of title, and connecting complex related agreements. In-class exercises will be used to provide participants with hands-on experience and a comprehensive binder will also be provided.


What To Bring

Participants are asked to bring a calculator, and are encouraged to bring their own samples and questions, which will be examined if time permits.

CAPLA reserves the right to cancel if minimum numbers are not met.

Instructor Bio(s)

Deb Waterhouse – Consultant, Iteration Energy

Deb has been in the industry for over twenty-five years and has worked in all facets of land admin. She is currently consulting as a Senior Contracts Landman with Iteration Energy. Her passion is teaching eager students and for six years, Deb taught courses in SAIT’s Petroleum Land Administration program. She has been a CAPLA member since its inception, the Vice-President in 2007-2008, and co-authored the original Certified Petroleum Land Contract Administrator (CPLCA) exam. Deb is also a member of CAPL.
