VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

PNG TENURE

A new committee is being formed in CAPLA. We need dynamic members to join the PNG Tenure Information Exchange Committee. Our goal is to make this an event a success for our association and our members.

Inviting government bodies, confirming speakers, monitoring registration, preparing material and assisting on the day of the event is some of the tasks that our committee members will be required to perform.

The 2012 event will be held on April 11th and 12th this year and then the committee will reconvene again in October 2012 to begin preparation for the event in 2013.

If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact Cathy Miller at the CAPLA office cathy@caplacanada.org or (403) 452-6621.

RECORDER

The CAPLA Awards Committee is responsibile for promoting the program, accepting nominations, selecting the recipients through a blind process and facilitating the CAPLA Awards Luncheon every April.  The Awards Committee is looking for a volunteer who will attend their regular committee meetings, record the minutes and distribute them to the committee members within a few days.  CAPLA minutes are fairly informal but must capture decisions, changes, tasks to be completed, questions that arise and potential links to other CAPLA committees or other organizations.  This committee meets from 12:00 to 1:00 on the last Wednesday of every month.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Cathy Miller cathy@caplacanada.org

 SYSTEM AND DATA SUB COMITTEE

The understanding of systems and data is an integral part of our day to day tasks and operations within our industry. To help build a strong, trusted and qualified pool of resources we would like to ask for volunteers to create a sub-committee and help bring this important piece of our day to day work through education to the forefront so that we can all learn and share in opportunities to help build and better our discipline.

The outline of courses to be offered through the sub-committee will provide insight and necessity into the growing demand for qualified individuals within the field of systems and data management to fill key roles and carry out these specific responsibilities as they relate to Land Administration.

FACILITATORS FOR STUDY GROUPS

Have you been successful in obtaining your CAPLA certification?  Would you like to encourage others to also be successful in reaching this goal? CAPLA is hoping to establish contract, surface and mineral study groups for individuals who want to write the certification exams.
  1. We would like to have 2 or 3 people facilitating each group.  This will take the pressure off of each individual and will allow for situations where one of the facilitators is not available.
  2. The facilitators will set the day and time.  We would like to run three sessions in each discipline prior to exams.  Each session would be 45 - 60 minutes.  Individual groups may decide to meet more often or for longer lengths of time.
  3. The facilitators are not expected to "teach" or to have all the answers.   The facilitators are expected to relay their experience, lead discussions and to help exam writer to learn how to build their knowledge base. This might include helping people to understand where they can go to get more kknowledge and understanding.
  4. The facilitators can use a space available at their corporations or they can schedule time at the CAPLA office.
  5. CAPLA will not charge for the study groups but we will take registrations so that you will know how many people, and who will attend.  We will also be able to set cut off numbers.

If you are interested in sharing your knowledge and helping other CAPLA members reach their goals, please contact Cathy Miller cathy@caplacanada.org 403 452-6621 for more information.
